Your First Scale
The First Pentatonic Scale (322233)
To read this diagram. Observe how the thick line on the left is nut of the guitar.
Many great guitarist have started their journey here. There are three things to memorize about the pentatonic scale. Memorize them!
3 attributes:
- Each string plays exactly 2 notes
- There is a backbone, meaning that the first note on each string starts on the bone.
- Each string is either has a large gap or a small gap. A large gap is 3 frets and a small gap is 2 frets.
What is up with that name, why 322233?
The beauty of the system that I am teaching you is that you only need to remember these numbers to play the scale.
- The first number is the number of frets on the 6th string (the thickest one).
- The second number is the number of frets on the 5th string
- And so on...
Give it a try!
Try playing both notes on each string, always starting on the backbone.
