How to play read and play a chord
Take a look at the diagrams below. If you already understand how to read a chord diagram, you can skip this section. If not, read on.
- The thick line at the top represents the nut of the guitar.
- The vertical lines represent the strings of the guitar, with the leftmost line being the 6th string (the thickest) and the rightmost line being the 1st string (the thinnest).
- The horizontal lines represent the frets of the guitar.
- The dots represent where you should place your fingers on the strings.
- The numbers inside the dots indicate which finger to use: 1 for index, 2 for middle, 3 for ring, and 4 for pinky.
- An "X" above a string means you should not play that string when strumming.
